Neşet Ertaş Faculty of Fine Arts Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Department - Carpet Kilims Old Turkish Fabrics MAB,  2016-2017 Education will be started in the academic year and 20 students will be taken to the 1st curriculum in the fall semester. The teaching language of the department is Turkish. Department students graduate with a title of Weaving Designer at the end of four-year undergraduate study.

Occupational Employment Opportunities

Graduates of this department can open their own workshops as artists before anything else; They can make art counseling in private and public institutions; As a researcher in the library, museum and related ministries, as staff in the relevant departments of the General Directorate of Fine Arts; They can work as restorers and conservators in official and private workshops as well as in expertise issues; They can work as designer in fashion houses, apparel workshops, home textile factories, carpet factories, hand-made carpet producing enterprises. In addition, they can become academics at universities, education and research institutes related to fine arts, and they can work as designers, designers and master instructors in private and public institutions.

Especially in recent years, sustainable production policies and the interest of developed societies in organic products have added another value to hand carpet.. Hand production process; (UR-GE) - modeling process, the workshop process in which the production is made and the inspection process of the produced products, the finishing process in which the maintenance, repair and presentation processes are performed. Our students will graduate with equipment that will dominate all of these processes. They can easily be employed in the carpet industry.

The machine carpet, textiles and garment industry is an industrial sector that plays an important role in the economic development process of developing countries and is one of the first industrialization sectors. It is possible for our associates to be employed in the sector as weaving designers in yarns, weaving - knitting and raw textile surfaces, machine carpets production processes.

Purpose and scope of the department

Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Department is in general sense; Developing policies and strategies to protect national cultural and artistic heritage; Contribute to the development of national and local arts; To create inventories for various hand crafted branches; To produce findings and perform innovations; To transmit the Turkish culture to new generations who are exposed to the invasion of other cultures by the intense pressure of globalization and mass media; Cultural values, to encourage the Turkish art to take over.

Objective of the Carpet-Rug Old Turkish Fabrics MA Branch; is to train the designers and artists that know shutle (Textile) and combed (carpet, kilim etc.) weaving techniques which have been matured with the accumulation of different regions and cultures since centuries; Color usage information; Pattern preparation techniques; Drawing motifs, composition methods; Weaving design and iconographic features of motifs; Historical processes; Maintenance-repair methods. The main aim of the MAB is to reveal the scope of traditional arts while bringing basic skills to students in cooperation with other art branches in line with this aim.In addition, it is another aim of the Department to acquire knowledge and skills that will enable them to be employed in the private sector, especially in the public sector, for their graduates. This MAB presents the educational programs that will help the students to acquire the necessary knowledge adequately by carrying out practical studies with the theoretical teaching of materials, patterns, colors and technical information. It is an advantage that the MAB aims to train experts in the field of weaving design, which is increasingly needed in our country. It is a different advantage that MAB is opened in Ahi Evran University, which is located in Kırşehir, which has a tradition of craftsmanship kneaded with ahilik culture and renews itself in terms of academic - physical infrastructure.

In terms of the academic sense of the Department, art, aesthetics and information in the context of the tradition of Turkish handicrafts is noticed at the point of the future. The most important aspect of the department is to teach the traditional arts to future generations with a methodological approach rather than master-apprentice relation, scientific methods, to make both artistic and cultural values alive. 

The presence of 3 full-time faculty members (2 Prof., 1 Assistant Professor) in the department can be considered as the strength of the program.The fact that the university administration has a supportive understanding of handicrafts in terms of promoting the projects to be done and guiding them is the most important strength that will enable sanata to develop the artist value programThe current resources of the university seem to be adequate in terms of the buildings and equipment needed. It will be the most important factor in the success of our new graduate school and the work of a developing university.
